Current Sermon Series: “LIFE’S BIG QUESTIONS ANSWERED”

There are four big questions everyone has to face sooner or later.

“Where did I come from?”
“Why am I here?”
“How should I live?”
“Where am I going?”

This Advent Season we will be looking at Scriptures from the Prophet Isaiah, and the Gospels to see how Christmas holds the answers to life’s biggest questions for all of us.

Many people at some point in their life have asked, “What’s the meaning of my life?” Why Am I here? When we feel our life has no meaning or purpose we can either wander aimlessly, or wander into self-destruction. With Jesus’ coming into the world, God helps us answer the question, “Why Am I Here?”

Mud Pies in the Slum (Sermon 12/2/18)
Different agencies have set different values on a human life. The Environmental Protection Agency set the value of a life at $9.1 million in 2010. The Food and Drug Administration, on the other hand, came up with a value of $7.9 million and finally, the Transportation Department said it was around $6 million, July 21, 2017. Many struggle with the idea that their life has no value or worth to anyone. If it has no value, then I must not matter. God says otherwise.

Sermon Series: “This Time Tomorrow…”
Paul at the end of his life felt the most important thing he could do was to make sure that his partner and friend Timothy carries on in his place, and made sure that Timothy would teach others. As followers of Jesus, how now shall we live in order to best follow Jesus, and help others do the same?

This Time Tomorrow I Will Live United (Sermon 11/25/18)
We are all shaped, influenced by people in our lives. They have shaped us for the good, and the bad. Every day we can chose with whom we will live united. How has each of our choices of people affected who we are today?

This Time Tomorrow I Will Follow Through (Sermon 11/11/18)
Some struggle because of anxiety, fear of making the wrong decision, waiting too long and the moment passes, or just simple inaction because of the effort required. What keeps us from following through to the end?

This Time Tomorrow I Will Live Visibly (Sermon 11/4/18)
From earth's wide bounds, from ocean's farthest coast, Through gates of pearl streams in the countless host, And singing to Father, Son and Holy Ghost: Alleluia, Alleluia! (For All the Saints). This last verse from the hymn, “For All the Saints,” looks forward to the day where all who have given their lives to Christ will enter heaven in glory and praise. Will we be in that procession? Who will be in that procession that we have invited?

This Time Tomorrow I Will Live Watchfully (Sermon 10/21/18)
As followers, disciples of Jesus, we are called to look beyond ourselves to see the needs of others, and try to address those needs.. Our goal is to not only serve others, but in our service, help others discover Jesus. As a disciple, do I live aware of my motives for serving, and the results of my service to Jesus?

This Time Tomorrow I Will Live With Integrity (Sermon 10/14/18)
Words matter. Words have meaning and power. Words can build someone up, or tear their lives apart. The recent Supreme Court hearings demonstrate how powerful words can be. When we think of personal integrity, we rarely think of how someone handles and use words. How would someone listening to us rank us on our integrity?

This Time Tomorrow I Will Live Faithfully (Sermon 10/7/18)
We are called to be faithful to our families, responsibilities, and God. So what is it that challenges our faithfulness to all these things every day? How as a follower of Jesus can I live faithfully when I may be challenged to bend in any of these areas?

This Time Tomorrow I Will Live Shamelessly (Sermon 9/23/18)
"Body Shaming” has been in the news a great deal; the idea that by our words and actions, we can make people feel ashamed of the body they have because it does not “fit in” to acceptable standards set by society. As a follower, disciple of Jesus, do I feel ashamed to be associated with Jesus? How about with others who say they are followers as well?

This Time Tomorrow I Will Live Intentionally (Sermon 9/16/18)
Many people write out their “Last Will and Testament.” Final wishes, thoughts, dispensation of belongings to family and friends. Have you thought what is important to you to pass along to the next generation? Materially? Spiritually? What will you pass along that will benefit the advancement of God’s kingdom?

How God Makes Our Lives Beautiful (Sermon 9/2/18)
At some time, we may all be challenged with remembering priorities, commitments, primary purposes of our lives. Dreams, goals, aspirations may dim and fade and we all may face a reality check. What happens when that happens in our spiritual lives, when our first commitments, priorities, desires fade?

Helping Others Out of the Slime (Sermon 8/26/18)
Revenge... Payback... Getting Even... We use different words, but they all mean the same thing- the desire to cause the same pain, hoping someone will feel the same pain they may have inflicted upon us. It’s how families divide, churches dissolve, wars can start and relationships forever be severed. Isn’t it great that’s how God treats us…. Or is it?

Can I Trust God When Others Slime Me? (Sermon 7/22/18)
“What goes around comes around.” “Turnabout is fair play.” “Don’t worry, you will get yours.” All these phrases highlight the idea that at some point in our life, others’ words or actions may hurt us, and we hope they get payed back in kind. What should your response be?

God Helps Us Through the Muck (Sermon 7/15/18)
Great things sometimes start from simple beginnings: McDonald’s from one shop, Apple computer in a garage, New Yorker magazine with one pencil. From simple beginnings, when we feel the world is against us, God can make something great.

Am I My Own Worst Enemy? (Sermon 7/1/18)
There is a time in each of our lives when we make selfish decisions. We know they are, and yet we choose to make them anyway, not thinking through the impact on others- and us. What do those decisions say about us, and what do those choices say about what is important to us?
