dividerUGANDA MISSION TRIP INFORMATION AND UPDATES:

Uganda Team is off! Please pray that God would work his purposes in and through the team, and that team members would be humble learners and joyful encouragers! They flew out of Boston at 11:45 pm Saturday – arrive at Lukome Center in Gulu mid-morning Monday. Watch for periodic updates. Hear from the team at Connections: April 28th at 9 am in church great room!

Update #1

The team has arrived safely at the ChildVoice Lukome Center, after a long 2 days of travel. RBC member, Krista Brown, spoke with the team this morning. Team leader, Paula Chouinard, said their travel over went really well – no problems or delays. Upon arriving at the Center, the team enjoyed a great welcome ceremony from the staff and girls! Everyone is doing well and excited to be there.

We are continuing to pray for good health and are praying that the team will begin to develop friendships with the staff and girls over the next few days!

Update #2

Highlights: We arrived in good health but are pretty exhausted. The Lukome Center is a beautiful and amazing place. We did community service today with girls from the Center, which included cleaning for a man with leprosy, and helping an elderly man with his gardens and some repairs. Whenever we say that it is hot here, the Ugandans laugh because it is the rainy season and cold to them.

A van arrived with a group of girls and their children returning from visiting their families back at the refugee camp. We noticed it when we heard the cheering and singing. The welcoming party lasted at least 15 minutes. It was wonderful to see how much the girls care for each other especially considering many of them were tribal “enemies” before coming here.

We are doing things we never imagined we would, like washing each other’s hair. The children are afraid of the muzungus (white people). Leah and Abby are bringing joy to everyone. Rita, the ChildVoice Project Officer for the Lukome Center, delivered the gospel message in a culturally appropriate way and several girls responded in faith.

The welcome ceremony the girls put on for us included traditional Acholi dances. The food is unique and delicious.

The Center’s commitment to restoring the girls’ sense of integrity is astounding. Even actions that may on the surface seem unkind (ChildVoice is apparently the only NGO that does not give out a “graduation package” of things when the girls leave) there is a good reason behind it – showing the girls that they are self sufficient and teaching them the value of hard work.

The team is in the process of learning the girls’ names, there are currently 36 girls at the Center plus their children. The farm at the Center has over 300 pigs that don’t smell at all! We are also trying not to get sunburned!

Praises:

Everyone is healthy.

We are learning to communicate with the girls and staff.

Prayer requests:

Pray for a good night’s sleep for Sandy and Mark.

Pray for the team as they navigate how to translate their experiences and apply them when they return back home.

Pray for the girls’, for continued learning and healing during their time at the Center

dividerApril/May/Lent Sermon Series- “Jesus’ Inside Friends”

So often when we talk about “the friends of Jesus” we are most likely to focus on the apostles, Peter, Paul, those who as Jesus says, “you are my friends if you do what I command you.” What about the people that Jesus seemed to welcome in and with whom he invited in the broken, bruised, unwanted or unwelcomed.  Do these describe our friends?

3/31- New Series “Jesus’ Challenged Friends” Luke 13:10-17

New Teaching Series starting April 28th:  “When Heaven is Dark”- When our doubts hide the light heaven.  In this series we will look at the doubts and fears that come into our lives and how they can challenge the very core of our lives and our faith

NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER, May 2ndWe would like to ask you, to pray and seek God’s wisdom to help you remember a time in your life when you struggled with a question, a problem, or a situation. A time when God showed up, spoke to you, and things changed.  Then to write a short devotional about it.  A sort of a Raymond version of the Daily Bread. Raymond’s’ real people, with real stories and problems,  seeking guidance from a real God.   Your stories might even come from your own journals.

In life we all hurt and often don’t understand our journey.   As we spend time with each other, and share our stories we create connections.  These connections allow us the opportunity to say that there is an awesome, powerful, loving, wise God just waiting to welcome us all home.

We ask you to keep your devotional to under 200 words, contain the scripture that spoke to you, and follow this simple outline:

  1. State your situation/problem/question
  2. State how God spoke to you, and the scripture He used
  3. State how this encounter with a living God changed you, your outcome, your actions or your direction

We would like to share these devotion with our guests the morning of NDP breakfast on May 2nd. If we get enough, we would put them into a booklet for our guests to take with them.  Devotions will be printed using first names, or anonymous upon request.

Please submit these devotions by email to Marion by April 1st   Thank you so much for partnering with us in this ministry to love our community to Christ.

We have sent out requests for bids on the Parking Lot Expansion project we have been talking about for two years. We are facing a deadline of this June to either start the project, or face additional costs in re-permitting if we decide to wait. Pray for clarity, God’s timing on this project and direction on this project.

FLU SEASON: As everyone is well aware, we are in the middle of a severe flu season. There are many who are affected.  We have attendees who are especially susceptible- people with compromised immune system, some elderly and our children. While we appreciate everyone’s desire to be in worship and participating in the life of the church, we would ask during this time that we would all use great wisdom with our own health to determine whether we should be around others. If you are ill, or have been ill recently please use good judgment regarding your exposure to others. Hand sanitizer stations are available around the church for your convenience as well. Sunday services are available through our church app and are posted early in the week. Videos of service are available on Channel 22 in Raymond.  Be in prayer for many who are struggling through this winter season, and thank everyone for watching out for the health of all

April/May/Lent Sermon Series- “Jesus’ Inside Friends”

So often when we talk about “the friends of Jesus” we are most likely to focus on the apostles, Peter, Paul, those who as Jesus says, “you are my friends if you do what I command you.” What about the people that Jesus seemed to welcome in and with whom he invited in the broken, bruised, unwanted or unwelcomed.  Do these describe our friends?

3/17- New Series “Jesus’ Political Friends” (The Tax Collector)” Luke 5:27-32

MEMBERSHIP CLASS: Are you new or just want to know more about RBC and membership, what we believe and how things work here or interested in becoming a member? We are still in the process of coordinating a membership class so if anyone is interested there is still some time to call, email the Office or Sign up at the Welcome Center

VBS VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Ladies and Gentlemen start your engines! Come be a part of the stock car crew as we introduce children to the “Eternal Race” that will last a life time.  Mark your calendars with the following Drive! MEN’S BREAKFAST: Mark your calendars for the next Men’s Breakfast on Saturday, March 23rd  at 7:30-9:00am.  Join us as it will be a great morning.

NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER, May 2nd: We would like to ask you to pray and seek God’s wisdom to help you remember a time in your life when you struggled with a question, a problem, or a situation.
